Welcome to the Website of the New Jersey State Conference of the American Association of University Professors!

Since 1915 the AAUP has been promoting sound academic practices and working for those practices to be accepted by the higher education community, as well as by national and state legislators. In the interest of the common good, it defends academic freedom and tenure, advocates collegial governance, develops policies ensuring due process, backs affirmative action, and seeks the overall well-being of the profession.

The New Jersey State Conference promotes the activities and values of the AAUP on the state and on the campus level. The meetings of its executive committee address concerns of local chapters and of higher education in New Jersey, and work with other organizations in the State to ensure that representatives of higher education have a voice in the State Government. The State conference publishes its newsletter, Academe, three times a year; and holds an Annual Conference Meeting each spring.

To check out our concerns and services, click on the appropriate links to the left. The national AAUP website carries more news of importance to higher education, along with many of the classic AAUP statements on academic freedom, etc., and recent statements about topics of current concern such as the use and pay of part-time faculty members, distance education, and intellectual property rights.

To correct your mailing address to receive The Advocate, please notify the national office first at aaup.org, then notify the NJ AAUP Secretary. For our mailings, we use labels supplied by the national AAUP office.
